France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain: (192 destinations)
These five nations are tied for second place. These passports allow their citizens easy access to 192 countries. While Spain and Italy have significant strategic relations and robust cultural diplomacy, France and Germany have extensive international ties. The most travel-friendly passport in Asia is still that of Japan, which used to be at the top.
Denmark, Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Korea, Sweden: (191 destinations)
These eight nations collectively rank third, granting access to 191 destinations. European countries in this tier are celebrated for their stable economies and diplomatic influence.South Korea is registering growing prominence in enhancing global travel freedom.
Belgium, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, United Kingdom: (190 destinations)
Fourth place features five countries with access to 190 destinations.Switzerland, Norway, and Belgium gain from their neutrality and EU membership. Despite its remote location, New Zealand is in fourth position. Also, even after Brexit, the United Kingdom managed to maintain its stable position.
Australia and Portugal: (189 destinations)
Australia and Portugal share the fifth spot. Their robust international trade relationships and favorable diplomatic policies help them to score here.
Greece and Poland: (188 destinations)
Both nations capitalise on their EU membership to provide their citizens broad access to global destinations.
Canada, Czechia, Hungary, Malta: (187 destinations)
Canada leads this tier as North America’s strongest passport, while Czechia, Hungary, and Malta showcase Europe’s continued dominance in mobility.
United States: (186 destinations)
The US holds eighth place, slightly behind its allies, yet remains a major force in global travel freedom due to its wide-reaching diplomatic ties.
Estonia, Lithuania, United Arab Emirates: (185 destinations)
The ninth position is acquired by these countries. This ranking highlights the UAE’s growing influence, alongside Estonia and Lithuania, which benefit from EU membership and regional stability.
Iceland, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia: (184 destinations)
Four European nations share the tenth spot. Their peaceful policies and cooperative regional partnerships are some of the highlights.
India's rank in the list
Indian passport ranked 83rd on the 2024 Henley Passport Index, granting access to 58 countries either visa-free or visa-on-arrival access. Even if this position represents a minor improvement over the previous years, there is more scope for improvement. Some of the popular visa-free travel destinations for Indian passport holders are Mauritius, Bhutan, Nepal, and the Maldives.
