Changes to Thailand's visa-policy: What does it translate for Indian citizens?

Under the new rules, visa-exempt travelers must obtain an ETA for each visit. This authorization allows for a stay of up to 60 days, with a possible extension of 30 days. The application process will be conducted online, eliminating the need for in-person visits to embassies. Importantly, the ETA is free of charge and features a QR code that will expedite immigration clearance, simplifying the entry process.

Thailand plans to fully-integrate ETA.

The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rolled out a timeline, initially there will be a pilot phase, which would late be fully integrated with Thailand's e-Visa services by June 2025. This new system will provide a streamlined online application process for all eligible travellers.

However, there are aspects of Thailand's entry regulations that remain unchanged. Travelers must adhere to their authorized stay limits, as the ETA system will closely monitor compliance. Overstaying a visa could result in fines and penalties. Additionally, while the ETA facilitates quicker processing, it does not guarantee entry; border officials retain the authority to refuse entry at their discretion.
As Indian travelers prepare for this transition, understanding these new requirements will be crucial for ensuring smooth and hassle-free visits to Thailand in the coming year
