American internet users have searched extensively for migration opportunities in Europe since the result of the US elections in 2024 was announced.
Over the course of 24 hours (November 5 to November 6), the overall volume of searches of Americans for migration and relocation in VisaGuide.World increased by 1514 per cent, with Germany and the Netherlands being among the most searched relocation destinations, Schengen.News reports.
During the same period, the overall traffic for immigration-related searches rose by 338 per cent as the users explored the best Schengen countries to move to from the US.
These Are Americans’ Most Searched European Destinations
According to data from Google Analytics, American users have searched for numerous relocation destinations, and European countries have led this list.
The most sought-after were Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal. Americans explored these destinations for different reasons – some had great affordability, others stood out for their warm climate, but, most importantly, all of these countries represent hope for a fresh start for the so-upset American voters.
Apart from European countries, Americans are also interested in moving to other English-speaking countries like Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Australia.
Americans Who Moved to EU Share Their Positive Experiences
In the wake of Americans showing increased interest in moving to Europe, hundreds of people have taken to social media to share their relocation experiences to European countries.
After living in Europe for over a year, a Reddit commenter pointed out the high taxes the European government impose. However, according to the user, it was a good decision.
Another user agrees that they have lower annual earnings since they moved to Europe, but many expenses are cheaper than in the US, enabling them to save enough money and take advantage of many benefits that the European countries offer.
The Reddit commenter says that they are able to save the same amount of money they did in the US despite having the same pre-tax salary, and, according to them, almost everything (including utilities) is less expensive. Another advantage is that most speak English, and public transit can actually be used.
Some other comments point out that Americans are increasingly obtaining Polish passports thanks to the descent law, which allows them to become citizens if a family member of theirs moved from Austro-Hungary to the US in the 19th century. A similar trend is noticed among Americans obtaining Irish citizenship through descendent law, which works almost the same as the Polish legislation.
