British Columbia, Quebec, and Manitoba have issued invitations to apply for provincial immigration programs this week.
British Columbia and Manitoba both issued invitations/ Expressions of Interest in their latest Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws.
All provinces and territories have PNPs to help provincial governments select economic immigration candidates most likely to integrate easily into the provincial workforce.
The PNP works because immigration is a shared responsibility between the federal and provincial governments. Each year, provinces receive an allocation of nominations they may issue to candidates.
Candidates who are successful in obtaining a provincial nomination are in a stronger position to then apply to Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residence.
Quebec has a separate agreement with the federal government that gives it autonomy over the selection of all its economic immigrants instead of receiving an allocation and therefore does not require a PNP.
Instead of receiving a nomination, candidates in Quebec are invited to apply for a certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ).
