These 10 Nationalities Are Highly Likely to Be Granted Schengen Visas by Austria

Austria is renowned as a destination for culture, opportunities and natural beauty. Thousands of people want to visit this European country every year, as application rates for Schengen visas show.

According to the statistics published by SchengenVisaInfo, Austria received 229,613 visa applications in 2023, ranking as one of the top destinations for visa applicants, Schengen.News reports. 

However, the chance of obtaining an Austrian visa might not be the same for all applicants, as some nationalities have higher approval rates than others. As explained below, these are the nationalities with higher Schengen visa approval rates for Austrian visas in 2023: 

Austria Granted Over 88% of Visa Applications Filed By These 10 Nationalities in 2023 
In 2023, Austria had an 84.6 per cent average of approval rates for Schengen visa applications. This rate was higher than the average of all Schengen states – 60.68 per cent and lower than Iceland’s approval rates, which stood at 94.2 per cent. 

These are the top ten nationalities with the highest approval rates for Austrian visas: 

Indonesians obtained 5,895 visas out of 5,928 applications filed, indicating that Austrian authorities granted 99.44 per cent of visa requests submitted by this nationality. 

Azerbaijanis had an approval rate of 97.53 per cent, receiving a positive response on 2,610 applications out of a total of 2,676 made throughout 2023.

Applicants from Thailand filed 13,208 visa applications in 2023, 97.46 per cent of which were approved. In total, Austria granted 12,873 visas to Thai applicants in 2023. 

Malaysians had a 97.36 per cent approval rate for Austrian visas, although their application rates were considerably lower than others. A total of 628 out of 645 applications filed for Austrian visas by Malaysian applicants received a positive decision for the year. 

Saudis filed 28,861 applications for Austrian visas in 2023. Around 96.97 per cent of them were approved, accounting for 27,987 visas granted and only 843 rejected visas. 

In 2023, South Africans had an approval rate of 96.44 per cent for Austrian visas, accounting for 4,932 out of 5,114 visa applications being granted. 

Omanis obtained 3,096 visas out of 3,237 applications filed, indicating that Austrian authorities granted 95.64 per cent of visa requests submitted by this nationality. 

Applicants from the Philippines had an approval rate of 92.43 per cent, receiving a positive response on 3,908 applications out of a total of 4,228 made throughout 2023. 

Chinese filed 27,293, and 91.70 per cent of them, accounting for 25,027 visas, were granted to this nationality. However, the Chinese had the highest number of rejected applications out of all ten nationalities in this list – 2,259 in total. 

Vietnamese obtained 88.44 per cent of the total applications filed for Austrian visas, representing 1,370 granted visas out of 1,549 visa requests filed in 2023.
