Thailand officially launched its digital arrival card system on May 1, 2025, in a major move to streamline immigration procedures and enhance the travel experience for international visitors. The new system replaces the traditional paper-based TM6 arrival card, which was previously required for all foreign travelers entering Thailand.
Key Features of the Digital Arrival Card System:
1. Paperless Process:
Travelers no longer need to fill out physical arrival or departure cards at immigration checkpoints. This reduces wait times and paperwork.
2. Online Submission:
Passengers can now submit their arrival information online through the official Thai immigration website or mobile application prior to arrival. The system captures essential travel and personal information, including:
o Name and passport details
o Flight information
o Accommodation address in Thailand
3. Integrated with Immigration Systems:
The digital system is integrated with Thailand's immigration database, improving efficiency, accuracy, and security at border checkpoints.
4. Faster Immigration Clearance:
Immigration officers have advance access to a traveler’s data, speeding up processing and reducing queues at airports and land borders.
5. Environmentally Friendly:
By going digital, the government aims to reduce paper waste and promote sustainable tourism practices.
6. Optional Trial Period for Some Travelers:
Initially, the digital card system may be optional or rolled out in phases at select airports like Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang to ensure a smooth transition.
Benefits to Travelers and Authorities:
• Travelers: Faster entry, less hassle, and no need to worry about losing or misplacing paper forms.
• Thai Authorities: Better data collection and analysis for tourism, improved national security, and reduced administrative workload.
This digital transformation aligns with Thailand’s broader efforts to modernize its immigration infrastructure and promote the country as a smart, tech-friendly tourist destination.
