SpiceJet and Air India Express Get Approval for India-Nepal Flights

SpiceJet and Air India Express have received approval to operate regular flights to Nepal, increasing connectivity and travel options between the two countries.

Good news for travellers! Nepal’s aviation sector is expanding, with two more Indian airlines set to commence regular flight operations. This development promises increased connectivity and convenience for those travelling between India and the Himalayan nation.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has approved SpiceJet and Air India Express to operate scheduled flights to and from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. This move significantly boosts the number of flight options available to travellers.

SpiceJet Returns, Air India Express Debuts
SpiceJet, a familiar name to those who travelled to Nepal pre-pandemic, is set to resume its daily flights, primarily from Delhi to Kathmandu. This will be a welcome return for many seeking reliable and affordable travel options.

Air India Express, on the other hand, is making its debut in Nepal. The airline has secured slots for two daily flights, further enhancing connectivity between the two countries.

Four Indian Airlines Now Serving Nepal
Currently, Air India and IndiGo are the primary Indian airlines operating flights to Nepal. With the addition of SpiceJet and Air India Express, there will now be four Indian airlines providing regular flight services. This increased competition is expected to lead to more competitive fares and greater flexibility for travellers.

“This expansion of air services will greatly benefit both tourists and business travelers,” stated Hansa Raj Pandey, spokesperson at CAAN. “It reflects the growing demand for travel between India and Nepal.”

Tribhuvan International Airport Expands Operations
In addition to the new flight approvals, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has also improved its operational efficiency. Maintenance work on the taxiway, which previously caused flight disruptions, is now being conducted without halting flight operations.

Furthermore, the airport has extended its operating hours to 18 hours daily, from 6 am to midnight. This extended schedule, implemented from Tuesday, ensures smoother and more efficient air traffic management.

Before this the airport had been operating on a reduced 14 hour schedule since the third week of October to facilitate maintenance.

What This Means for Travellers
The increase in flight operations between India and Nepal signifies a stronger connection between the two countries. The approval of new airlines translates to several benefits for travelers:

• More Flight Options: With four airlines operating, travellers have a wider range of departure times and ticket prices to choose from.
• Potential Fare Reductions: Increased competition among airlines could lead to more affordable ticket prices, making air travel between India and Nepal more budget-friendly.
• Enhanced Connectivity: More flights mean better connectivity for both business and leisure travelers, ensuring easier access to Nepal’s cultural and adventure tourism hotspots.
• Improved Travel Experience: With multiple airlines offering services, passengers can expect better service quality, competitive offers, and promotional discounts.

Conclusion
The addition of SpiceJet and Air India Express to Nepal’s aviation network is a game-changer for travelers between India and Nepal. With expanded flight options, improved connectivity, and competitive fares, this move makes air travel between the neighboring countries more accessible and convenient than ever before.

For those planning a trip, now is the perfect time to explore Nepal’s breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and adventure tourism offerings with greater ease.
