Spain is a popular destination for many nationalities, with thousands of applicants submitting their Schengen visa applications yearly.
According to statistics published by SchengenVisaInfo, Spain is the third most sought-after country in the Schengen Area for 2023, receiving 1.4 million applications. This means that Spain was the destination for 13.6 per cent of all applicants who submitted visa requests for the year, Schengen.News reports.
Over one million visas were approved, taking the approval rate to 77.4 per cent, which is lower than the Schengen states’ total average (82.2 per cent).
5 Nationalities With the Highest Approval Rates for Spanish Visas in 2023
Spain did not have the highest approval rates for Schengen visas in 2023. However, some nationalities were more likely to be granted a Spanish visa than others.
As the data reveals, Spain had a higher approval rate for these nationalities:
1. Jamaicans
2. Indonesians
3. Thais
4. Saudis
5. Filipinos
Jamaicans filed 3,062 visa applications in 2023; 98.40 per cent of them, or 3,013, were approved. On the other hand, rejected visas were considerably low – 41 of them received a negative decision.
Indonesians were the second nationality with the highest approval rates, having 96.1 per cent of visas approved. This means that out of the 20,090 applications Indonesians made, 19,317 were approved, and 615 were rejected.
Thais, on the other hand, have an approval rate of over 95 per cent, representing 10,647 issued visas out of 11,203 applications. Saudis filed 52,624 applications – 49,636 were approved (94.32 per cent), and 1,242 were rejected (2.36 per cent).
Filipinos are the fifth nationality with the highest visa approvals in this country. In addition, 21,527 visas were issued to Filipinos in 2023, showing an approval rate of 93.91 per cent.
Spain Was Prone to Reject Visa Applications of These 5 Nationalities
While Jamaica, Indonesia, and other countries of origin of Schengen visa applicants to Spain had higher approval rates, other countries, mainly on the African continent, are more likely to have their visas rejected.
According to the data, these five nationalities had the highest rejection rates by Spain in 2023:
1. Pakistanis (52.84 per cent)
2. Nigerians (49.85 per cent)
3. Gabonese (49.65 per cent)
4. Bissau-Guineans (48.21 per cent)
5. Ghanaians (43.40 per cent)
The rejection rate for these countries was between 52.8 per cent and 43.40 per cent – which means that nearly half of their visa applications received a negative response. Out of these nationalities, Pakistanis were most affected, having 9,766 visas rejected, followed by Nigerians with 6,457 rejections and Ghanaians with 2,313 rejected visa applications.
