Singapore Now Has the World’s Most Powerful Passport

With a 91.15 passport score, Singapore has the most powerful passport, enabling facilitated movement for over 5.6 million people in the country.

According to the VisaGuide Passport Index, Singapore passport holders can enter a total of 168 countries without visa requirements, making it the only document to grant entry without hassles to this many countries, VisaGuide.World reports.

More specifically, 159 countries allow entry for Singapore citizens without visa requirements while another nine require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Russia, India and Nigeria along with another nine countries issue eVisas for Singapore citizens.


Singaporean Passport Recognized as Strongest for 4 Months in a Row

Between March and June, the Singaporean passport has maintained the first rank for being the most powerful passport in the world.

The latest rank shows that Italy follows second, granting visa-free entry to 107 countries, including here 44 countries where Italian citizens can enter passport-free.

The majority of these passport-free countries are Schengen states.


Italian passport has a score of 90.49 points, indicating that its holders have increased mobility to many countries.

However, visa requirements apply to Italian citizens for entry to 17 countries. Singaporeans, on the other hand, need to apply for a visa in order to enter 19 countries.


Japan’s Passport Ranks 2nd Strongest in Asia

The list of the top 20 most powerful passports also includes the Japanese passport, which ranks 13th internationally and second in Asia.

With a passport score of 89.55 points, Japanese passport holders can enter the visa-free a total of 143 countries and territories, while there is a Visa-on-Arrival requirement for travel to 36 countries, including Egypt, India and Indonesia.

Evisas are required for entry to 18 countries including Russia, Burkina Faso and Papua New Guinea, while visa requirements for Japanese passport holders apply for a total of 19 countries.

Afghanistan, Algeria, Cuba and Syria are some of the countries that do not allow entry to Japanese citizens without a visa.

18 out of 20 Strongest Passports Are European

The European countries dominate the list of most powerful passports in the world.

Italy, Spain and France have the strongest passports currently, with only 17 countries having visa requirements for passport holders of these countries.


The difference in passport scores between EU passports stands between 88.61 and 90.49, showing minor changes.

Out of all countries, Poland has the lowest passport score – 88.61 points, enabling Polish citizens visa-free entry to 100 countries. German passport, although has a higher score (88.63 points) grants entry without a visa to 91 countries.
