Perth Airport in Australia Welcomes 16.1 Million Passengers Marking a Milestone and More to Embrace as Paris Olympic Nears

Perth Airport has experienced a remarkable year in the 2023-24 financial period, setting new records in passenger traffic.

The airport saw over 16.1 million passengers, surpassing the previous record of 14.9 million set in FY14.

This growth was largely fueled by a significant increase in regional travel.

Perth Airport has shattered its passenger records for the 2023-24 financial year, with over 16.1 million travelers passing through its terminals.

This achievement is primarily driven by a surge in regional travel, which outpaced both interstate and international travel.

In FY24, Perth Airport saw more than six million regional passengers, surpassing interstate travelers at 5.7 million and international passengers at 4.3 million.

This marks a significant milestone in the airport’s recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.

Perth Airport CEO Jason Waters expressed his amazement at the rapid recovery and growth.

He credited the extraordinary efforts made to attract airlines and increase passenger numbers. “We have added more than ten million passengers since FY21 and easily broken a decade-old record,” Waters stated.

He highlighted the continued confidence airlines have shown in the Western Australian market, which is expected to drive further growth.
Looking ahead, Perth Airport is set to invest over $5 billion in new infrastructure.

This includes expanding the international terminal, developing new domestic terminal facilities, constructing a parallel runway, building two multi-storey car parks, and establishing the airport’s first hotel.

These developments aim to provide additional capacity for airline partners and enhance the travel experience for passengers.

The infrastructure investments come shortly after resolving a dispute with Qantas over its move to the Airport Central precinct.

With this issue settled, the airport is focusing on creating a unified, central location for all flight services.

Waters emphasized the goal of delivering a seamless, world-class travel experience for all passengers. “We are now getting on with the job of investing more than $5 billion in new infrastructure to provide the additional capacity our airline partners need to grow their businesses,” he said.

The new developments will ensure that Perth Airport can accommodate future growth and continue to offer top-notch services.

Perth Airport’s record-breaking year in passenger traffic highlights the dynamic growth and recovery of the travel sector in Western Australia.

With substantial investments in infrastructure and a focus on enhancing passenger experiences, Perth Airport is well-positioned to support continued growth and become a central hub for regional, interstate, and international travel.

In summary, Perth Airport’s significant increase in passenger numbers, driven by regional travel, and its substantial investment in new infrastructure mark a promising future for the airport and the broader travel industry in Western Australia.
