A total of 327,880 people were ordered to leave the European Union countries from the beginning of 2024 until the end of September. Nearly 35 per cent (112,335) of them were ordered to leave in the third quarter of the year alone, indicating the period between July and September.
According to data published by Eurostat, the EU Office for Statistics, the number of orders to leave has remained neutral while the number of returns to third countries is going up. In the third quarter of the year, 27,740 persons were returned to their home countries – 13 per cent more than the figure recorded in the second quarter, Schengen.News reports.
Algerians Were the Most-Ordered Nationality to Leave the EU in Q3 2024
Algerians represented ten per cent of all non-EU citizens who were ordered to leave the EU during the third quarter of 2024. The second and third to follow were Moroccans and Syrians, each representing seven per cent of the most ordered to leave.
As per nationalities that returned the most to their home countries, Georgians represented the largest share – 11 per cent compared to Albanians and Turks, each accounting for seven per cent of the returned individuals for this period.
In the second quarter of the year, Algerian and Moroccan nationals represented the largest nationalities groups that were ordered to leave, each accounting for seven per cent of total numbers, followed closely by Turkish and Syrian citizens at six per cent, respectively.
A Quarter of All Orders to Leave the EU in Q3 2024 Were Issued By France
The data reveals that France issued 30,800 orders for non-EU citizens to leave the bloc, which accounts for 25 per cent of all orders. Germany followed second with 13,660 or a share of 11.1 per cent, and Spain ranks third (13,645; 11.1 per cent).
These three countries also lead the list of countries where people returned to third countries. France recorded 3,655 cases of people who returned to their home countries, representing 13.1 per cent, followed by Germany (3,260 or 11.7 per cent) and Spain (3,160 or 11.3 per cent), with all three countries representing 10,075 or 36 per cent of all cases of people returned to third countries.
Countries that issued the fewest orders to leave include Slovakia, Portugal, Estonia, Slovenia, and Malta.
