Over 10,000 Organised Tourists from Russia May Visit Cyprus in 2024

Over 10,000 clients of Russian tour operators may visit Cyprus by the end of this year, according to the estimates made by Attica Holidays.

Cyprus will serve nearly 8,500 clients of Russian tour operators this year, 70 per cent of which will be tourists from the tour operator Russian Express, which this year bought backlogs of seats on connecting flights Moscow-Kuwait-Laranca of Jazeera Airways.

The same estimates that the rest of the visits of Russians to Cyprus will be independent tourists, trips of residents and property owners, Schengen News reports.

Cyprus is attempting to attract new markets, following the decrease in the number of organised Russian tourists.

This year, the island has welcomed a larger number of tourists from the following countries:
  • Poland
  • Czechia
  • Armenia
  • Israel
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • Denmark
In this context, Attica Holidays said that Russians with their active spending in the city and trips to wineries as well as monasteries “have not yet been replaced by any market.”

According to Attica Holidays, with the departure of Russian travellers, the number of tourists visiting Orthodox monasteries in Cyprus has also decreased significantly.

In a meeting of representatives of Russian media and top managers of hotels in Cyprus, representatives of local businesses expressed significant interest in the emergence of any additional flows of tourists from Russia to Cyprus under the current conditions.

Over 62,000 Russians Visited Cyprus in 2023

The figures from the Statistical Office revealed that in the first 11 months of 2023, a total of 61,796 tourists from Russia visited Cyprus.

The figures show that a significant number of Russians visited Cyprus, in spite of the sanctions imposed by EU countries, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The figures from Attica Holidays, which continues to work in Cyprus with clients from Russian tour operators, revealed that it served nearly 200,000 of the nearly 3.9 million organised foreign tourists who reached Cyprus before the spread of COVID-19.

The representatives of the Cypriot company said that now the percentage of Russian tourists has marked a notable decrease.

Attica Holidays said that in 2019, Russians made a total of 782 trips to Cyprus, which amounted to one-fifth of the total international tourist flow to Cyprus.
