North Bay, Ontario, has unveiled a comprehensive list of 25 occupations eligible for permanent residency under the newly launched Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP). This initiative, which succeeds the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP), aims to address labor shortages and bolster economic growth in rural and northern communities by attracting skilled foreign workers.
Overview of the RCIP Program
The RCIP is a five-year pilot program introduced by the Government of Canada to support rural communities in attracting and retaining newcomers with the skills needed to thrive. North Bay is among the 15 communities selected to participate in this initiative. The program is administered locally by the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The federal government has invested $1,125,000 through FedNor to support the implementation of the RCIP in North Bay and surrounding areas, including communities within the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts and the Town of Latchford.

Open NOC Category
North Bay has also introduced an "Open NOC" category, allowing for a limited number of applications (maximum of 10) from high-skill level occupations not explicitly listed. Examples include engineers, aviation technicians, pilots, architects, legal professionals, call center supervisors, and chefs.
Application Process and Community Requirements
To be eligible for the RCIP in North Bay, applicants must:
• Secure a genuine job offer from an employer within the designated community.
• Meet the specific requirements of the occupation, including necessary certifications and experience.
• Demonstrate the intention to reside in North Bay or surrounding areas.
• Fulfill language proficiency requirements, which vary depending on the occupation's Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER) level.The North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce is responsible for assessing applications, recommending candidates for permanent residency, and providing support throughout the settlement process.
