New Zealand is introducing a crucial change in tourist visa applications

Starting June 17, 2024, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) will require all supporting documents submitted with visitor visa applications to be in English.

Applicants must provide certified translations of any documents originally in a foreign language.

This new policy aims to streamline the application process by reducing the time taken to review non-English documents.

Previously, documents submitted in languages other than English, without accompanying translations, could delay visa processing.

The requirement for English translations is expected to help INZ process applications more efficiently.

Documents Needing Translation

All supporting documents for visitor visa applications must be in English or include a certified English translation.

Examples of such documents include:
  1. Proof of funds, such as bank statements and pay records
  2. Flight itineraries, including return tickets
  3. Proof of employment in the applicant's home country
  4. Leave of absence documentation
  5. Identity documents other than passports, such as the Hukou for Chinese nationals
It is important to note that English translations for medical and police certificates have already been a requirement for visitor visa applications

Certified Translation Requirements

Certified translations can be completed by:

1.Reputable private or official translation businesses
2. Community members known for their accurate translations, excluding the applicant, their family members, or their immigration adviser

INZ will also accept translations from licensed immigration advisers (LIA) who are recognized for their translation accuracy and are not advising on the same application

Applications submitted without the required English translations are likely to be declined.

This new measure underscores the importance of ensuring all documents are properly translated to avoid any processing delays or potential rejections.

This policy change by INZ is designed to make the visa application process smoother and faster by eliminating language barriers.

Applicants should ensure all their documents are accurately translated to meet these new requirements and facilitate their visa approval process.
