Nationals of India can now head to a new Italian visa application centre opened in New Delhi to apply for an Italian Schengen visa.
The new Italian Visa Application centre by VFS Global has been inaugurated in New Delhi, in which event were also present the Ambassador of Italy, Antonio Bartoli, and the representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, as well as several Consuls of the Schengen Area Member States, Schegen.News reports.
The Ambassador of Italy, Antonio Bartoli voiced his gladness for the inauguration of the new Visa Center in New Delhi, dedicated exclusively to Italy.
Surge in Demand for Italian Visas From Indians
Italy has intensified its efforts to meet the increasing demand for visas from nationals of India.
A total of 67,000 applications were processed in 2022. At the same time, in 2023, there were a total of 91,600 applications processed from the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi as well as the Consulates General of Italy in Mumbai and Kolkata.
According to a report from L’Agenzia di Viaggi Magazine, following the opening of the new Consulate General of Italy, in Bangalore, in the first six months of this year, requests from Italian Visa Offices in India increased by 28 per cent, with a total of 54,200 applications and the prospect of surpassing 100,000 visa applications in India by the end of this year.
Nationals From Several Countries Subject to Difficulties in Obtaining an Italian Visa
When it comes to obtaining a Schengen Visa, applicants from several African and Asian countries are less likely to be granted a Schengen visa by Italy after the rejection rates for these territories are higher than the average of 87.55 per cent.
According to the statistics provided by SchengenVisaInfo, in 2023, Italy received a total of 1.1 million applications for Schengen visas, ranking fourth for most visa requests. The same revealed that France, Germany and Spain account for the top three countries.
