Shanghai has introduced guidelines to enhance the provision of luggage storage facilities and services in public spaces, addressing concerns from local and global travelers burdened by carrying luggage while visiting the city.
These guidelines, developed by the Shanghai Commercial Association under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, coincide with the launch of Shanghai’s inaugural “Shanghai Summer” International Consumption Season.
The initiative aims to offer more convenient, efficient, and secure luggage storage solutions for both domestic and international visitors.
The guidelines promote the development of standardized, professional, chain-operated, and platform-operated luggage storage services.
They are set to be implemented in major commercial areas, shopping districts, and vicinity of significant cultural and tourist sites, sports venues, transportation hubs, and nearby commercial establishments.
Currently, there are 395 designated points throughout the city’s commercial sector offering luggage storage services, with plans to increase this number to 500 by the end of July.
These guidelines are based on thorough customer flow analysis and identified needs, focusing on establishing location-specific luggage storage service points.
Efforts are currently aimed at achieving full coverage across eight key international consumer hubs: East Nanjing Road, Middle Huaihai Road, Yuyuan, West Nanjing Road, Lujiazui, Xujiahui, North Bund, and Hongqiao International Central Business District.
