Lithuania has decided to ban 1,216 foreigners from entering the country, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has revealed.
Additionally, migration authorities revoked the residence permit of 1,483 foreigners, mostly citing unsigned or terminated work contracts as the main reasons, SchengenNews reports.
These and several other measures came after the implementation of stricter labour rules introduced recently by the Lithuanian government.
More specifically, the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania carried out 61 inspections during May 2024. 12 of these controls were conducted with the Migration Department, the State Labor Inspectorate and the State Tax Inspectorate.
During this month, the respective authorities inspected 1471 citizens of foreign countries. As a result, authorities identified 17 individuals who had breached the provisions of the law of Lithuania “On the Legal Status of Foreigners”.
The migration authorities also decided to return to the country of origin a citizen of Uzbekistan, who, according to them, had overstayed his legal stay in Lithuania.
In addition, 14 citizens of different countries, including Belarus, Pakistan, Georgia, and Ukraine, faced penalties according to the Code of Administrative Offenses.
12 Foreigners Lost Residence Permits Due to a Threat to State Security or Public Order
As further noted in the ministry’s statement, 12 individuals had their residence permits revoked over security or public order concerns, while some others were denied temporary permits or changes to the existing ones.
