Italian Passport Remains Europe’s Most Powerful in June 2024

The Italian passport has been recognised as the most powerful passport in Europe and the second-strongest in the world, opening the doors of many countries for Italian citizens.

According to the Visa Guide Passport Index, the Italian passport collected a total of 90.49 points, granting Italian passport holders visa-free entry to 107 countries, Schengen News reports.

Italian citizens are also eligible to enter 44 countries passport-free, unlike Singaporeans, who, despite having the strongest passport in the world, are not permitted to enter any country without a passport.

Italian Passport Europe’s Most Powerful Passport for 3 Months in a Row

Italy’s passport has been the strongest European passport in the last three months, ranking second internationally.

In February and March, the Italian passport was the third most powerful in the world and second compared to the EU, falling behind the Spanish passport.

This passport enables Italian citizens to enter ten countries with an eTA, while in 20 countries, they are allowed to enter with a Visa-On-Arrival (VOA).

Some of the countries with VOA requirements for Italian passport holders are Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.


Azerbaijan, India, Russia, Uganda and another 16 countries allow entry to Italian citizens with an eVisa, while 17 countries, including here Afghanistan, Algeria and Cuba require a visa for Italian passport holders to enter.

The Spanish and French passports rank third and fourth overall for the strongest passport, enabling respective citizens entry to 106 and 104 countries.

Citizens of both countries have visa requirements to 17 countries, while the Spanish and French passports have a passport score of 90.48 and 90.45, respectively.


In general, EU passport holders are able to enjoy free movement around the world as their passports are among the top 20 countries with the strongest passports in the world.
