The Irish authorities have announced that starting November 4, 2024, the application process to renew the residence permits will be moved online for all foreign residents of the remaining counties that continue to require physical applications.
The online renewal application is already in place in Dublin, Kildare, Meath, Wicklow, Cork, and Limerick. By moving the process online in all the other counties, Ireland wants to ensure that all foreigners have access to the same services, Schengen.News reports.
As the Immigration Service Delivery of Ireland has explained, from November 4, all those who want to submit a residence permit renewal application need to complete this procedure using the online renewal portal.
This shift from physical to online application will save time and money for applicants as they will no longer have to go to the Burgh Quay Registration Office in person to renew their permit.
The same authority noted that first-time applicants will not be eligible for online applications for immigration permission. Those applying for the first time for the document will be required to still attend the registration office.
Applications for Residence Permit Renewal Can Be Submitted 12 Weeks Before Expiry
According to the Immigration Service Delivery of Ireland, applications to renew the residence permit can be submitted up to 12 months before the expiry of the current residence permit.
The same authority further emphasised that applications for online renewal from all counties can be submitted now.
To successfully make a residence permit renewal application, foreigners in Ireland need to upload all the required documents with their application before submitting it. If certain documents are missing, the application will not be processed.
When applying for the renewal of the Irish residence permit, applicants are required to pay a fee.
However, certain exemptions apply. The authorities noted that those who have refugee and subsidiary protection status, those aged between 16 and 18, those who are residents based on marriage to an Irish citizen, those who are family members of an EU citizen, those who have the right to remain in the country under the International Protection Act, and Ukrainians under temporary protection do not need to pay the fee.
