India has extended a goodwill gesture by approving a special provision that makes 7th-generation Indian-origin Mauritians eligible for the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card. President Droupadi Murmu announced this initiative during a State Banquet hosted by Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. This move aims to reconnect younger Mauritians of Indian origin with the land of their ancestors and reflects India's deep respect for shared cultural values.

President Murmu also said that the Indian government will support Mauritius in the redevelopment of the sacred Ganga Talao complex. This initiative will transform the site into a religious, cultural, and touristic hub, emphasizing the cooperation between the two nations.

Ganga Talao, a crater lake situated in the heart of Mauritius, holds immense religious significance as the most sacred Hindu place in the country. The redevelopment project is expected to deepen the people-to-people connect and foster stronger ties between India and Mauritius.

In her address, President Murmu highlighted the recent bilateral initiatives, including the launch of UPI and RuPay Card settlement systems, the inauguration of new infrastructure projects, and plans for a jointly developed satellite and the supply of environment-friendly electric buses.

The president acknowledged the remarkable progress in bilateral ties, attributing it to the mutual commitment of the two governments. She praised Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth for his leadership, expressing confidence in the continued development of the special partnership.

As India progresses on its journey towards becoming a developed country and a global power, President Murmu assured that India will continue to strengthen its ties with close partners like Mauritius. The emphasis on shared values of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the world is one family) and "Sarvajana Sukhina Bhavantu" (may all beings be happy) underscores India's commitment to global peace and prosperity.

President Murmu expressed delight at participating as the Chief Guest in the 56th National Day celebrations of Mauritius, praising the country as a shining beacon of development, democracy, diversity, and dynamism. She commended the extraordinary triumph of the human spirit represented by Mauritius and paid homage to the brave ancestors who came from India, especially the 'girmitiya' indentured laborers.

The relationship between India and Mauritius, rooted in a deep historical connection, continues to flourish through shared endeavors, such as securing the waters of the Indian Ocean, collaborating during the COVID-19 pandemic, and supporting each other in global platforms. President Murmu highlighted India's commitment to various development projects in Mauritius, symbolizing the enduring bond between the two nations.

As President Murmu attends Mauritius' National Day celebrations, she expressed her hopes for the continued flourishing of the special ties between India and Mauritius.
