Hungary has signed an agreement to scrap visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders from Pakistan.
Under this deal, Pakistani diplomatic passport holders will be eligible to travel to Hungary without being subject to visa requirements, Schengen.News reports.
The decision came following a meeting held between Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister, Péter Szijjártó and his counterpart from Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, according to a report from Arab News.
Szijjártó’s visit to Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Hungary and Pakistan also signed two memoranda of understanding in the fields of culture and archaeology in order to enhance bilateral cooperation.
The recent agreement has also been welcomed by Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ishaq Dar.
Hungarian Foreign Affairs Minister’s visit to Pakistan marks the latter’s push to bring in investment from European countries in its priority sectors in order to achieve sustainable growth after pursuing agreements in trade, energy as well as tourism in the recent months.
Addressing Refugee Concerns
The Hungarian Minister, during his visit to Pakistan, also addressed the Afghan refugees.
According to him, both countries have been subject to serious security challenges in their respective regions.
Szijjártó said that there is still a big threat from terrorists arriving from Afghanistan. According to him, this threat of terror comes with the danger of further irregular migratory waves towards Europe.
He said that, therefore, Hungary values and appreciates the efforts made by authorities in Pakistan, stressing that they contributed significantly to Europe’s global security.
In its fight against those who pose serious threats to national security, the National Assembly of Hungary approved the 15th amendment to the Constitution, which provides restrictions for those who pose a threat to public or national security.
It also states that the citizenship can be stripped from those holding citizenship of a non-EU country, in addition to Hungarian citizenship.
Following the approved amendment to the Hungarian constitution, there are only two genders: male and female.
