How to update address on your passport online: A step-by-step guide

Update your details online
If you're looking to update your address in your passport, you can use the Passport Seva's online portal to make these changes.

Step 1: Visit the Passport Seva Portal
Begin by visiting the Passport Seva portal and selecting the "New User Registration" link.

Step 2: Provide Details and Select Passport Office
Enter accurate details and choose the passport office you intend to visit. Enter the CAPTCHA characters and click the "Register" button.

Step 3: Login to the Portal
Log in to the Passport Seva portal using your login ID and password.

Step 4: Navigate to Applicant Home Page
Once logged in, navigate to the "Applicant Home" page and select "Apply" for either "Fresh Passport" or "Reissue of Passport."

Step 5: Access Online Application Form
Opt for the second option in the list, which includes a "Click here" button to access the online application form.

Step 6: Fill in Details
Fill in the necessary details in the application form, including the type of application and passport booklet. Click "Next" to proceed. You can view your saved/submitted applications as well.

Step 7: Pay and Schedule Appointment
Click on "Pay and Schedule Appointment" to make the payment for reissuance and schedule your appointment.

Step 8: Choose Payment Option
Opt for "Online Payment" for internet banking, credit, or debit card payment. Alternatively, select the "Challan Payment" option if online payment is not available. Click "Next" to continue.

Fees for address update on passport online:
- Passport having 10-year validity with 60 pages: Rs 2,000
- Passport having 10-year validity with 36 pages: Rs 1,500
- Tatkal process: Rs 2,000 (added to regular charges)


Step 9: Select Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) Location
Choose a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) location and print the application receipt. Upon receiving the receipt, visit the designated Passport Seva Kendra or Regional Passport Office as per your appointment.

Step 10: Bring Required Documents
Bring along your original documents along with the application receipt. If you have received an SMS confirmation of your appointment, you do not need to carry the physical application receipt.

Documents required

  • Original passport.
  • Copy of the payment receipt or challan.
  • Copy of the online application.
  • Proof of current address (e.g., Electricity bill, Aadhaar, voter ID, water bill, etc.).
  • Self-attested duplicate of the observation page issued by the issuing authority.
  • Copy of the spouse's passport (if the applicant's current address matches the address stated on the spouse's passport).
