Growing Interest in Croatian Citizenship Among Argentinian Nationals

The demand for Croatian citizenship is marking a notable increase among those living abroad, particularly those living in Argentina.

The strength of Croatia’s passport and other benefits such as work or travel access are among the reasons leading to the surge in demand for the Balkan country’s passport, Schengen.News reports.

In the city of Zadar alone, the interest in obtaining Croatian citizenship remains significant.

However, in spite of the fact that more Argentinians are attempting to become Croatian nationals, the head of the reception office at the State Archives in Zadar, Dajana Mičić, told HRT that only 250 citizenship requests were processed last year in this city.

According to Mičić, this could suggest either a limited number of successful applications or the stringent nature of the process.

Argentinians Top Beneficiaries of Croatian Citizenship
The figures provided by the Croatian Ministry of Interior revealed that from 2020 until August 2024, Croatian authorities granted citizenship to 11,054 citizens from South American countries.

The same source reveals that the main beneficiaries of Croatian citizenship during this four-year period were nationals of Argentina.

The Ministry revealed that from 2020 until August 2024, authorities in Croatia granted a total of 5,581 citizenships to Argentinians.

In addition to Argentina, nationals of the following South American countries also benefited the most from Croatian citizenship from 2020-2024.

• Chile – 2,615
• Peru – 741
• Bolivia – 733
• Brazil – 597

Croatia’s Ministry of the Interior also emphasised that authorities in this country are also processing a total of 1,233 citizenship applications by South Americans.

Croatia’s Passport Among World’s Most Powerful
The strength of Croatia’s passport is also among the reasons why an increasing number of foreign nationals are interested in obtaining it.

In the Passport Index of the VisaGuide.World, which ranks passports of a total of 199 countries, considering the strength of their passports based on several factors, Croatia is ranked in the 17th position, with a passport score of 89.92 per cent.

Croatia’s passport offers its holders visa-free access to a total of 99 countries, while visas are required when planning to travel to 22 countries.
