Poland is a popular European destination for visitors and third-country nationals make no exception.
According to statistics published by SchengenVisaInfo, Poland received 124,057 visa applications in 2023. The approval rate of these applications was quite high – 85 per cent of all visa applications received were issued, Schengen.News reports.
However, not all applicants could easily receive a Schengen visa from Poland, as some countries were prone to having their applications rejected more often than others. Below, we will reveal applicants of which countries were likely to be rejected when applying for a Polish visa based on their rejection rates.
5 Countries With Highest Rejection Rates for Polish Visas in 2023
Angola has the highest rejection rates out of all countries, and nationals have filed an application for a Schengen visa to Polish consulates for 2023.
In total, 65.63 per cent of applications filed by Angoleans were rejected, accounting for 529 applications, compared to 276 that were approved. The share of multiple entry visas (MEVs) was also low – 6.33 per cent, or 51 visas were approved for multiple entry.
Syria was the second country of origin for most rejected applicants by Poland for Schengen visas during this period. Applicants from Syria filed 308 visa applications in 2023, 60.71 per cent of which (187) were rejected.
Ethiopia, Peru, and Brazil had higher rejection rates than applicants from other countries. Poland rejected 54.98 per cent of all applications filed by Ethiopians in 2023, which accounts for 331 rejections compared to 271 approved applications.
In addition, applicants from Peru filed 74 visa applications, 51.35 per cent of which were rejected, accounting for 38 applications. Applicants from Brazil filed ten visa applications – half of which were rejected. Although Brazilian passport holders are exempted from Schengen visa requirements, foreigners living in Brazil still have to apply for a visa to travel to the Schengen Area.
Nearly 60% of All Rejections Were Made to Nationals of These 5 Countries
While applicants from previous countries had the highest rejection rates, these countries had the highest number of rejected applications, which could be mainly due to the high number of applications.
However, the number of rejected applicants by Polish authorities reached 18,564. Belarus is the country with the highest number of rejected visas for 2023. Poland rejected 4,097 visas for Belarus applicants, which is 11.52 per cent of the 35,550 visas Belarusian applicants filed in 2023.
India is the second country with the highest number of rejected applications – 2,288 out of 11,954, while China is third with 1,974 rejected visas out of 13,663.
Algerians filed 3,183 applications, with 1,325 being rejected, while Turks filed 9,510, with 13.35 per cent of them accounting for 1,270 applications being rejected.
