Similar to the previous years, Germany continues to register a high number of visa applications from Indian passport holders and remains one of the most preferred destinations in the bloc for this nationality.
As the German Embassy in India Deputy Chief of Mission, Georg Enzweiler, has revealed, a spike in visa applications has already been registered in the first quarter of this year.
According to Enzweiler, German visa applications from Indians have increased by almost 20 per cent in the first three months of this year compared to the same period in 2024, reflecting increased interest in travel to Germany, Schengen.News reports.
This information by Enzweiler was shared during a joint press conference of the German Embassy in India and the German National Tourist Board. However, Enzweiler did not disclose the percentage of those who were granted the visa.
Regarding visa accessibility, Enzweiler said that the authorities are working to digitalise the entire process, while highlighting that the rules will not change, meaning that Indian passport holders will continue to remain eligible for multiple-entry and longer validity visas.
Germany Saw Nearly 9% Rise in Indian Tourist Stays in 2024
Recently shared data have shown that the number of overnight stays by Indian tourists in Germany increased by 8.6 per cent in 2024.
More specifically, Indians accounted for 897,841 overnight stays in Germany last year compared to 826,703 in 2023.
In addition to the above-mentioned, figures have revealed that Indians are preferring longer stays in Germany. The average length of stay increased from 9.3 nights in 2023 to 9.6 nights in 2024.
Automatically, this means that the spending of Indian tourists in Germany has also increased, with this nationality leaving more money in the EU country.
The growth in travel from India to Germany has been linked to the improved air connectivity between the two countries.
Indian tourists have been showing increased interest in visiting the other Schengen member states, too. In addition to Germany, over the years, France has also been recording a high number of visa applications from Indians and overnight stays.
