Germany’s Foreign Ministry is not providing any proper answers related to the number of nationals from Afghanistan who entered the country, according to a recent report from Tichys Einblick.
Local media reports say that over 34,000 Afghans have reached Germany through different programs offered by the country’s government, in spite of official figures not being provided yet.
Over 5,000 cases related to visa approvals are currently being examined, Schengen.News reports.
Concerns have been raised after claims that the Foreign Office may be involved in a scandal related to visas, after since last year, a large number of visas has been issued to nationals of Afghanistan, in addition to those from Syria, Türkiye, Pakistan and Africa.
Based on local media reports, since Germany’s Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, took office, the Foreign Office has pursued a “generous” entry policy for nationals from Afghanistan.
In addition, there were instructions from a Foreign Office (AA) department to issue German visas to those obtaining false documents. Questions in this regard were addressed by Petr Bystron (AfD) to Baerbock in the Bundestag.
A previous report from Business Insider noted that about 30 per cent of applicants from Afghanistan had doubts related to their identity or their potential threat status.
Therefore, diplomats from AA knew that the findings from the security interviews were not sufficiently taken into account when issuing visas.
The same notes that there were decision-makers in the Foreign Office who ensured that information that the Office received was not passed on to the visa offices.
An inquiry to the prosecutors in Berlin and Cottbus by Focus has revealed that the extent of the alleged provision of justice by the Foreign Office is more significant than assumed, after it is not just linked to the admission of Afghans through different programs but also to Syrians and Turks.
Last month, authorities in Germany unfolded plans to apply new changes to their regulations in order to deport Afghans and Syrians who have committed serious crimes.
The decision was announced by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, stressing that Germany would not tolerate religious extremists and criminals, who exploit the country’s law protecting refugees.
Irregular migration concerns have led authorities in Germany to consider introducing effective measures that would help to curb migration.

However, recently calls in Germany have emerged to extend these measures for other purposes as well, among them irregular migration.
The leader of the parliamentary group of the junior coalition partner Free Democrats (FDP) Christian Dürr, called for an extension of border controls after some of Germany’s State interior ministers made the same request.
