France Revoked Citizenship for 18 People So Far This Year

A total of 18 people have been stripped of their French nationality since the beginning of this year, marking a new record.

Such figures have been provided by the Ministry of the Interior of France to Le Monde, Schengen.News reports.

The same reveals that 29 people have been stripped of their French nationality since the beginning of 2023.

According to local media reports the main reason for the increase in the number of stripped-off nationalities is the exceptional measure in the number of prisoners convicted of terrorism who have finished serving their prison sentences in recent months.

In April this year, authorities in France deported Rachid Aït El Hadj, a Moroccan national who was convicted of terrorism in 2007. The Moroccan national was also stripped of his French nationality, according to a police source cited by Le Figaro.

The Interior Minister of France, Gerald Darmanin, thanked French authorities through a post on his X account.

In October 2023, authorities in France revealed that two or three people were placed in administrative detention facilities and were subject to the deportation process after being reported for radical acts, due to the murder of a teacher Arras by his former student, known for having a record of radical acts and statements.

The Minister of Interior said that the fate of these people awaits all who have a record of radical statements or acts, and it will apply to those not of French nationality, indicating that those with a residence permit will be stripped of their rights and will be deported as well.

Back then it was reported that the first case of these acts was reported in the Alpes-Maritimes, where a person was arrested after driving around in front of a synagogue in Cannes. The police then revealed that there was a tear gas canister in the trunk of the vehicle.
