Former Croatian Deputy Speaker: China’s Visa-Free Policy to Strengthen Ties

A former Croatian parliament deputy speaker, Davorko Vidovic, has praised China’s visa-free policy, emphasizing that it will further tighten connections between Croatia and China.

Vidovic also believes the decision will encourage more Croatians to visit China, Schengen.News reports.

He said the decision can create conditions for serious improvement of already increasingly better relations on the economic, cultural and political level between the two countries.

Vidovic, who has visited China several times, told Global Link that he believes the decision will boost cooperation between both territories.

Several EU Countries Eligible to Travel Visa-Free to China
From November 30, 2024, nationals of Croatia are eligible to enter visa-free to China until December 31, 2025

Last month, authorities in China announced that in addition to Croatia, nationals of Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Malta and Romania would gain visa-free access for short-term stays, from November 30, 2024.

Announcing the decision, the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, said that visa-free entry would be allowed on a trial basis, with the policy remaining effective until December 31, 2025.

However, authorities in China said that if the policy proves to be effective in bringing in a larger number of nationals from EU countries, the policy may be extended for another period of time.

Extended Visa-Free Stay Period
In a bid to welcome a larger number of internationals, authorities in China also decided to double the visa-free stay period for nationals of countries that are part of the visa exemption policy of China.

The decision means that from November 30, 2024, those who are allowed to enter China without being required to apply for a visa at first will now be eligible to stay for up to 30 days instead of the 15-day rule.

China permits a large number of countries to reach the territory without visa requirements for short-term stays.

On November 8, 2024, China abolished visa requirements for nationals of Finland, Denmark, Norway, Slovakia, Iceland, and Liechtenstein as well.
