First Healthcare Express Entry Draw Sent 500 PR Invitations

On May 2, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted its first healthcare-focused Express Entry draw of the year, issuing 500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residency to candidates with experience in healthcare and social services occupations.

Key Details of the Draw:
•        Number of ITAs Issued: 500
•        Minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score: 510
•        Tie-Breaking Rule: Candidates who submitted their Express Entry profiles before July 21, 2024, at 04:31:17 UTC were prioritized in cases where multiple candidates had the same CRS score.
This draw is notable for having the highest CRS cut-off score for a healthcare-specific selection to date, reflecting the competitive nature of this category.

Context and Significance:
The draw follows the expansion of eligible occupations within the healthcare and social services category in February 2025, which now includes roles such as nurses, physicians, social workers, and other allied health professionals. This initiative aims to address Canada's growing demand for healthcare professionals, especially in rural and Francophone communities, as nearly 20% of the population is over 65 years old.
This was the 345th Express Entry draw overall and the 15th in 2025. It followed a historic draw on May 1, 2025, which invited 1,000 candidates under the newly introduced education category, targeting experienced educators to address teacher shortages across Canada.

What This Means for Applicants:
If you are a healthcare or social services professional considering immigration to Canada, this draw indicates a continued prioritization of your occupation. To be eligible for future draws:
•        Create an Express Entry Profile: Ensure your profile is complete and up-to-date.
•        Aim for a Competitive CRS Score: Given the high cut-off, enhancing your language proficiency, gaining additional work experience, or obtaining a valid job offer can improve your score.
•        Stay Informed: Monitor IRCC announcements for upcoming draws and changes in eligibility criteria.
