The Finnish authorities have announced that as part of the country’s new project to develop the regulation on removal, an entry ban could be imposed on foreigners without residence permits who threaten Finland’s public and national security.
As shared in an official release, the Finnish government said that in line with the proposal, it would be possible to remove the right of entry into the country for “dangerous” people who do not hold a residence permit issued by Finland or any other EU member state, Schengen.News reports.
According to the Finnish government, such a measure would help the country to prevent in advance the entry of “terrorists or foreign fighters who have been sentenced abroad” to Finland and the other countries in the bloc.
In addition to the above-mentioned, some other measures for denial of stay and deportation have also been proposed.
New Project to Assess if Deportation & Denial of Stay Can Be Combined Into a Single Procedure
As explained, the Finnish authorities are also looking into making changes to promote more efficient practices when it comes to removing foreigners from the country.
To make the process run more smoothly, under the new project, it will be assessed whether the regulation on deportation and denial of stay can be combined into a single procedure.
Moreover, another objective of the government is to return rejected asylum applicants to their countries of origin as soon as possible.
Finland is also working on tightening other rules for foreigners. Just recently, the Finnish Ministry of Interior said that it wants to tighten residence permit rules for those applying for family reunification.
The Ministry said that criteria for nationals of third countries will become more stringent, with, among other things, the country introducing an age requirement. To apply for a residence permit for family reunification purposes, the Ministry said that both spouses will need to be at least 21 years old.
