Finland issues 34,557 work-based residence permits in 2023

Finland saw a surge in the number of foreign workers!

The European Migration Network report of 2023 has revealed that there is an increase of foreign workers in Finland.

In 2023, Finland issued 34,557 work-based residence permits; out of these, 15,081 were residence permits issued for the first time, and 19,476 were the permits extended.

The number of work permits issued by the Finnish Immigration Service in 2022 was 28,455; this means that foreign workers are settling in Finland.


Professionals are accompanying their families to Finland

Official statistics show an increase in the number of family members receiving residence permits.

In 2023, Finland granted 20,278 permits for families accompanied by professionals.


 Finland also reported a surge in the number of students in 2023.

Around 12,795 residence permits were issued to students, 35% more than in 2022.

Finnish received 5,372 new applications from asylum seekers.  


Finland Is Facing Labour Shortages

The European Migration Network statistics show that the number of foreign workers in Finland has increased, but the country still has a labour shortage in 33 different occupations.

Some of the recognized shortage occupations were in the food service industry, IT, engineering, healthcare, construction, and metal processing.
