Filipino Citizens Can Keep Visiting Taiwan Visa-Free Until July 2025

Filipino tourists can travel to Taiwan without a visa until July 31, 2025, after Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced the extension of the visa-free program that began in September 2022.

Through a press release, the same authority revealed that the program was initially scheduled to end on July 31, 2024.

Filipinos with valid passports, except those holding diplomatic or service passports, can take advantage of the visa exemption program, which allows for a stay of up to 14 days.

According to MOFA, the visa-free entry of passport holders in Thailand and Brunei has also been extended to the same period (July 31, 2025).

After evaluating the effectiveness of the above measures over the past years, participating agencies decided to extend the trial visa-free entry program for one year for nationals of Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025.

Taiwan Aims To Improve Its Visa Measures

The MOFA further said it will continue to review and adjust visa policies to strengthen bilateral exchanges and attract more visitors while ensuring border and public security.

It will communicate with the governments of related countries to improve visa processing for Taiwanese citizens and make their overseas travel easier.

The Philippines granted Taiwan a 14-day visa-free privilege in 2017, extending until July 2020. However, in February 2020, the Taiwanese authorities decided to stop visa-free movement for Filipino citizens to enter the country.

Last year, Taiwan targeted more than 320,000 visitors from the Philippines. Since it reopened its border on October 13, 2022, Filipino arrivals reached 60,723 in the first quarter of 2023.

According to the VisaGuide Passport Index, the Taiwanese passport is ranked 69th worldwide as of June 2024.

As a result, Taiwanese citizens can travel visa-free to 109 countries worldwide. On the other hand, to enter the remaining countries, Taiwanese passport holders must apply for a visa in advance.
