Denmark: New Income Requirement for Residence & Work Permit Applicants From June 30
Denmark will enforce a new income requirement from June 30, 2024, for foreigners who apply for a residence and work permit for the purpose of entering the country for work purposes.According to the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI), the new income requirement will apply as part of the updated salary statistics, which aim to ensure that foreign workers are offered salaries in line with Danish standards.
As SIRI explains, foreigners who apply for a residence and work permit after June 30, 2024, to reach Denmark for work purposes will have their application assessed based on the new updated salary statistics, Schengen.News reports.
In contrast, foreigners who have filed residence and work permit applications between April 1, 2024, and June 30, 2024, will have their application assessed based on the previous salary statistics.
Foreigners’ Salary Must Align With Danish Standards When Taking Employment in Denmark
For foreigners to be granted a residence and work permit to enter Denmark for work purposes, their salary must align with the Danish standards.
The condition to have the salary correspond to the standards of Denmark applies both to those applying for the permits for the first time as well as to those applying for the extension of the documents.
In line with the rules that Denmark has, the requirement for the salary to correspond to Danish standards applies to all foreigners applying for a residence and work permit under the following scheme:
- Fast Track Scheme
- Herdsmen and Farm Managers Scheme
- Internship Scheme
- Pay Limit Scheme
- Positive List for People With Higher Education
- Positive List for Skilled Workers
- Researcher’s Scheme
- Special Individual Qualifications Scheme
- Supplementary Pay Limit Scheme
However, in cases when SIRI assesses that the salary does not meet the country’s standards, the authority can ask for a comment from the employer before making a decision on the case – whether to grant a residence and work permit or not.
