The Minister of Interior of Croatia, Davor Božinović, has said that the country is relying more and more on foreign workers.
Taking into account the labour shortages that Croatia is dealing with in several sectors across the country, the Minister further stressed that Croatia’s economy needs foreign workers, suggesting that the country plans to welcome more foreigners, Schengen.News reports.
Such a statement from Minister Božinović comes after foreign workers were subject to brutal attacks in Split.
The Minister highly condemned the attack on foreign workers in Split, saying that the recent event is very shocking and disturbing. At the same time, the Minister pointed out that violence and discrimination against foreign workers must not be tolerated in any form.
Minister Božinović further said that the Croatian community should be an example of a society where each individual, regardless of their origin, can live and work without fear for their safety.
In addition, the Minister noted that the country will continue to provide support to those who are threatened and called for the society to be a country of peace and security.
Croatia Working to Grant More Rights to Foreign Workers
The Croatian authorities just recently shared that they are working on offering more favourable rules and more rights to foreign workers.
As explained by the authorities, they are working to make it possible for foreign workers to benefit from compensation for a period of 60 days if their employment contract is terminated. During this period, foreign workers will be able to look for a new job in Croatia.
This measure is aimed at preventing abuse of foreign workers as they will not have to worry about being ordered to leave the country if they remain jobless.
In addition to the above-mentioned planned measure, the Croatian authorities have said that they also want to extend the validity period of work permits from the current one year to three years.
