Croatia is Surging Tourism Industry with Visa Free Travel to 183 Countries Including USA, UK, Canada, Schengen and Gulf Nations

As of August 2024, Croatian citizens enjoy the privilege of visa free travel to 183 countries, highlighting the country’s growing global influence and connectivity.

Croatia, with its stunning Adriatic coastline, rich history, and vibrant culture, has emerged as one of Europe’s top tourist destinations.

From the medieval charm of Dubrovnik to the breathtaking beauty of the Dalmatian islands, Croatia offers a diverse array of experiences for travelers.

Whether you’re exploring ancient Roman ruins in Split, lounging on the pristine beaches of Hvar, or enjoying the crystal-clear waters of the Plitvice Lakes, Croatia’s unique blend of natural wonders and cultural heritage makes it an irresistible destination for visitors seeking both adventure and relaxation.

In 2023, Croatia saw a significant increase in outbound tourism, with international departures rising by 22%. This marks the highest total since 2021 and highlights the strong desire among Croatian travelers to explore leisure destinations after the restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

TTW Editor Mr. Anup Kumar Keshan said: “Croatia’s tourism appeal is undeniable, with its rich history, stunning landscapes, and now, increased global mobility for its citizens.

The ability to travel visa-free to 183 countries as of August 2024 further enhances Croatia’s attractiveness as a top European destination. This ease of access, combined with the country’s unique blend of cultural and natural wonders, makes Croatia a must-visit for travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation.”

Airports boosting tourism in Croatia:

Brač Airport on the island of Brač, near the town of Bol, experienced a 19.6% increase in passenger numbers in 2023, handling a total of 19,073 travelers. As one of Croatia’s three island airports, Brač Airport primarily caters to charter flights from Europe during the summer season, serving as a key point of entry for tourists.

Dubrovnik Ruđer Bošković Airport, commonly known as Čilipi Airport, is located 15.5 km (9.5 mi) from Dubrovnik’s city center. It plays a crucial role as an international gateway to the region.

The airport, which was the third busiest in Croatia in 2019, saw a robust recovery in 2023, surpassing the two million passenger mark in September. Dubrovnik Airport’s long runway allows it to accommodate heavy long-haul aircraft, making it a popular destination for summer leisure flights.

Osijek Airport, often referred to as Klisa, serves the city of Osijek and its surrounding areas. Located 20 km southeast of Osijek, the airport saw significant growth in 2023, with 36,791 passengers passing through its gates. This increase reflects a strong recovery in air traffic, positioning Osijek Airport as an important regional hub.

Airlines:
Croatia Airlines Ltd., the country’s flag carrier, continues to play a vital role in connecting Croatia with the rest of Europe.

Headquartered in Buzin near Zagreb, the airline operates from its main hub at Zagreb International Airport, with additional focus cities in Dubrovnik, Split, and Zadar. In 2022, Croatia Airlines transported 1.8 million passengers, a 77% increase from the previous year, though still 18.6% below 2019 levels.

In July 2024, the airline began operating its first Airbus A220-300 aircraft on domestic routes, featuring a 149-seat configuration. The introduction of this new aircraft is part of Croatia Airlines’ fleet renewal plan, with a total of 15 A220 aircraft set to be delivered by 2027.
