  • The employment rate in Canada increased by 0.4% in April 2024.
  • In April, Canada’s employment increased by 90,000, and average salaries per hour reached $35 in April.
  • Employment increased in several industries, such as professional, scientific, and technical services, accommodation and food services, health care and social assistance, and natural resources.
  • Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, and New Brunswick are a few provinces where the employment rate increased in April.
The employment rate increased by 0.4% in April Canada.

The employment rate increased by 90,000 in April, following a 0.4% change from March. The employment gains were managed by part-time employment. On a year-over-year basis, the part-time employment rate increased by 2.9%, while the full-time employment rate increased by 1.7% in April. Employment increased in industries such as professional, scientific, and technical services, accommodation and food services, health care and social assistance, and natural resources. The total work hours rose by 0.8% compared with the previous 12 months. Average salaries reached $35 per hour in April.
 
Employment increases in a few industries

In April, employment increases in a few service-producing industries, such as:
  • Professional
  • Scientific and technical services
  • Accommodation and food services
  • Health care and social assistance
  • Natural resources
In the past 12 months, the highest employment growth has been seen among people working in hospitals, social assistance, and nursing and residential care facilities.
