Canada’s new agreement with India to add more flights

Canada has announced a "new agreement" with India to add more flights between the two countries, including one to Amritsar. Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, “many Canadians have their loved one in India whom they want to see more often.” "That's why Canada government has negotiated a new agreement with India to add more flights between India and Canada and also to add more flights to Amritsar."

 In November 2022, India and Canada made an open skies agreement allowing specified airlines to conduct unlimited flights connecting the two nations. Before this agreement, there were 35 flights between Canada and India.  

Currently, Air India runs 10 flights from Delhi to Toronto and 7 per week to Vancouver. Pierre Poilievre, leader of Canada's Official Opposition, has also called for a direct flight to Amritsar.

Khalsa Day marks the Sikh New Year.

Thousands of people gathered in Toronto on Sunday for one of the largest events: Vaisakhi, also known as Kahalasa Day. According to the Ontario Sikhs and Gurdwaras Council (OSGC), Vaisakhi is the Sikh New Year established for the Sikh community in 1699.

 On this day, Justin Trudeau said this is a moment to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of Sikh Canadians, from the railroads to the world wars to science, business, art, and politics. Canada works together to build a better future for everyone.
