Canada has amended the eligibility criteria for international candidates who use the Express Entry pool to enter the country. Express Entry candidates will no longer receive extra Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for job offers, including those supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
Modifying the selection process for Express Entry pool candidates will affect current and future applicants.
Effective March 25, 2025, Canada has removed ‘job offer points’ from the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) in the Express Entry pool. This will apply to current and future candidates. The updated score is expected to show up correctly within a week.
The removal of ‘job offer points’ from the Comprehensive Ranking System will not apply to all categories, but only to those which are classified under Major Group 00 of the National Occupation Classification (for example, senior management positions) (200 points) and in any other skilled occupation (50 points).
Candidates with qualifying job offers in their Express Entry profiles will lose their previously associated CRS points. In contrast, those with a current job offer will no longer have the opportunity to earn extra points after March 25, 2025.
IRCC could have enforced measures to prevent illegal buying and selling of Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) and job offers, which some individuals use to boost CRS scores and increase ITA chances.
If having a valid job offer is part of your eligibility criteria, this won’t change. This includes:
The Federal Skilled Trades Program
The Federal Skilled Worker Program
Some streams under provincial nominee programs.
You should still include the details of any job offers in your Express Entry profile so you stay eligible for these programs.
Canada Permanent Residence Process
The Express Entry system is Canada’s primary online platform for processing immigration applications from skilled workers under programs such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.
IRCC invites candidates from the pool to apply in rounds throughout the year. IRCC chooses them based on points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system that IRCC uses to assess and score your profile and rank it in the Express Entry pool.
If you want to come to Canada as a skilled immigrant, your first step is to create your profile and submit it to the Express Entry pool. IRCC invites you to apply to be a permanent resident of Canada (if you’re one of the top candidates). Completing an online Express Entry profile or entering the pool doesn’t guarantee that IRCC will invite you to apply for permanent residence. You can only apply if IRCC sends you an invitation.
