Canada released the eligibility criteria for a new permanent residency pathway known as the Rural Community Immigration Class in the Official Gazette.
The Rural Community Immigration Class is a new permanent residency pathway in Canada that allows foreign nationals to apply for permanent residence in Canada. Foreign nationals who can establish themselves economically in a designated rural community in Canada are eligible to apply for the Rural Community Immigration Class. Eligible applicants will be those who intend to reside in a province other than Quebec and who meet the specific requirements.
An applicant who applies for permanent residence under the rural community immigration class from within Canada must have a valid temporary resident status at the time of their application and must maintain valid temporary resident status until permanent resident status is granted.
An applicant must have a valid certificate of recommendation from an economic development organization at the time of application, which the economic development organization must not have revoked before permanent resident status is granted.
The work experience must have been acquired over a continuous period of at least one year of full-time work, or the equivalent in part-time work in an occupation listed in the National Occupational Classification and have been acquired in the three years before the day on which the applicant applied for permanent residence.
The work experience requirement does not apply to an applicant who obtained an eligible credential from a post-secondary program and the applicant was enrolled as a full-time student during the entire period of the program
An applicant must demonstrate that they have received a qualifying genuine offer of employment that is from a designated employer for non-seasonal, full-time work for an indeterminate period and for employment that is located in the designated community and where at least 75% of the work is to be performed within that designated community.
An economic development organization can recommend a foreign national if they have the required work experience and a wage within the Job Bank of the Canada Employment Insurance Commission, unless their acceptable wage ranges exceed the minimum wage. Applicants need to meet the education requirements and intend to reside in the designated community.
