Discover how to apply, the eligibility criteria, and other visa options available for Indians.

Australia has announced an exciting new opportunity for Indian graduates and young professionals. The Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-Professionals Scheme (MATES) will allow eligible Indians to live and work in Australia for up to two years starting from December 2024.

This new scheme aims to strengthen ties between India and Australia by providing work opportunities in key industries.

What is the MATES Program?
The MATES Program is a new Australian visa initiative offering a Temporary Work (Subclass 403) visa. It targets graduates and early-career professionals from India’s top universities, allowing them to gain valuable international experience in Australia’s key industries.

The program aims to be fair and transparent, using a pre-application ballot system to select candidates. This approach ensures that everyone has an equal chance to participate in the MATES stream and pursue career opportunities in high-demand sectors across Australia.

How MATES Works!
Starting in December 2024, Indian graduates and early career professionals from top universities can register for a pre-application ballot for the Temporary Work (International Relations) visa. This visa allows multiple entries into Australia and flexible stay durations.

Key Highlights of the MATES Program

• The program is open to Indian nationals aged 18-30.
• A total of 3,000 visa slots will be available each year, allocated through a lottery system.
• Successful applicants can travel in and out of Australia freely during the visa’s validity.
• Family members can accompany primary applicants without counting toward the 3,000 available places.
• Eligible fields include high-demand sectors such as renewable energy, mining, IT, AI, and financial technology.

Eligibility and Registration Process
To apply for the MATES visa, Indian nationals must follow a specific registration and application process:

1. Ballot Registration: Starting December 2024, interested candidates can register in the pre-application ballot. Only those who pass this initial stage will be invited to apply for the visa.

2. Eligibility Requirements:

• Hold a valid Indian passport and PAN card (Permanent Account Number).
