Additional Poland-Ukraine Border Checkpoint to Open Temporarily for European Neighborhood Days

On August 16-17, an additional crossing point, Korczmin-Stayevka, near the town of Belz in the Chervonograd district of Ukraine’s Lviv, will be temporarily opened to celebrate the European Neighborhood Days.

This initiative allows citizens to experience cross-border cooperation through a newly designated crossing point. In addition, Border guards will enable people to cross the state border of Ukraine on foot, Schengen.News reports.

According to the State Border Service of Ukraine, the crossing point will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on both days – August 16 and 17. The Korczmin-Stayevka border crossing, located near Belz in Ukraine’s Chervonograd district, will also be operational during these dates.

As the same authority explains, due to ongoing pavement repairs at the Hrebenne-Rava Russkaya border crossing, travellers should anticipate potential disruptions until September 12. State Border Service of Ukraine further noted that these repairs may complicate travel plans in the area.

The European Neighborhood Days, an annual celebration designed to enhance relationships and cooperation between neighbouring countries, is a significant event. This year’s celebration, which will take place soon, will bring together communities on both sides of the border for various cultural, educational, and social activities.

This year’s event will unite communities on both sides of the border for various cultural, educational, and social activities. Participants are encouraged to review the program beforehand and prepare for border crossing on foot. As mentioned above, a temporary checkpoint will be in place to facilitate smooth and secure passage during this period.

Unlike the new temporary border crossing, the Dorohusk border crossing between Poland and Ukraine has been closed due to repairs. This closure, in effect until November 14, 2024, is important information for those planning to cross the border during this period.

The closure is expected to significantly impact traffic, with long delays for commuters, carriers and truck drivers from August 5 to mid-November. Authorities suggest alternative crossings to avoid prolonged waiting times. In July this year, senior superintendent Marzena Siemieniuk revealed that around 300 trucks were waiting in Dorohusk, with transit times estimated at 10-12 hours.
