35,500 European youngsters will receive travel passes for Free This Summer!

  • 35,500 young Europeans will receive free travel passes to discover Europe this summer under the Discover EU scheme.
  • The Discover EU scheme was launched in 2018, and since then, around 1.4 million youngsters have applied for free travel passes.
  • The aim of the Discover EU scheme is to teach European youngsters more about Europe’s diversity, history, and heritage.
  • More than 180,000 young people have already applied for the free travel pass in the latest round in April of 2024. 
Free travel passes under the Discover EU scheme

35,500 youngsters will receive Free Europe Travel Passes to discover the European continent for free this summer.

The free travel passes will be distributed under the Discover EU schemes by the Commission of the EU.

The Discover EU scheme aims to make youngsters more aware of Europe’s diversity, teach them more about history and heritage, and help them connect with young people from all over the continent.


In the latest round, in April 2024, around 180,000 youngsters applied for the free travel pass.

Those who get travel passes will be allowed to travel alone or in a group of five people between July 1, 2024, and September 2025.

In addition to these travel passes the selected youngsters will also receive a European Youth Card, which offers discounts on local transportation, cultural visits, accommodation, sports, learning activities, and food. 


Eligible criteria for the Discover EU Scheme

To be eligible for the Discover EU scheme:
  • Applicant must be 18 years old
  • All the information they provide should be correct
  • Applicants must be legal citizens of one of the EU member states 
Next Round of Registration

Every year, there will be two application rounds: one in spring and the other in autumn.

The next round is expected to be after summer. A high number of registrations are also expected in the next round.

The official dates of the next round have yet to be announced.
